3 little monkeys

HUDSON HAUDE SIBAYAN
18 IN. 6 LBS. 11 OZ.
JANUARY 29, 2011

Hudson is 6 days old now and doing magnificent!
he was born saturday morning via c-section.
he cried really loud when he was born, which was music to my ears!
when he went to the nursery they were a little concerned with his breathing and ended up monitoring him for about 10 hours.
thankfully he didn't have to get transported to another hospital, but he got to come to my room that night and didn't have to go back to the nursery.
our hospital stay was short and quick...we went home on monday morning.
daddy got him ready for his first time out in the big world.

when we left the hospital i was due for my pain medicine, but the nurse said i would have to stay for another hour if they gave it to me.
i got my prescription filled on the way home, but the pharmacy couldn't do it right away so hours went by and i was in severe pain!
i had cramping that was sending sharp pains down both of my legs and it hurt so bad that my teeth were hurting.
once the pain medicine got in my system i started to feel a lot better.

nursing:
nursing has definitely not gone smoothly!
i know hudson is my third, but i had to pump with gabi so jake was the first one i nursed and i never had a problem with him. he just seemed to pick it up and gain weight right away.
hudson has not had a good latch, which has caused me lots of pain starting out.
then last night he went for about 7 hours of no eating because it was like he didn't know what to do and i didn't know what to do either.
i called a nursing helpline through the hospital, but there isn't much you can do over the phone, so today i went to the moms group at the hospital and i got the help i needed. we have been doing great since then.
i am so thankful to have been able to go to this class today.

weight:
hudson has continually lost weight this week, which i will attribute to the fact that we were not nursing very successfully. now that we know what we are doing i am praying that he will just begin to gain weight from now on. we have been to the doctors every day this week, except today because i went to get help. going to the doctors is not fun or easy when you have staples in your stomach and you are exhausted! but we have pushed through.

jaundice:
hudson has been very jaundice as well, which means we have had to go to the lab three days in a row this week as well. the lab is not at near the doctor's so we have spent a lot of time in the car. i really think this has had a lot to do with our bad nursing because it's so hard to feed a newborn in the car! they are finally not worried about his jaundice, but there was talk about having him admitted to the hospital because it wasn't going down. this was another very stressful thing to deal with this week. thankfully, our doctors are wonderful and they treat our kids like they treat their own.
we moved the cradle to the sunlight to try to get the jaundice out of him. he was so warm with the sun shining on his belly.

my staples are now out and i feel like i am walking and not shuffling like a little old lady, which is great!
hudson brings a big smile to my face every time i look at him!
he is such a joy and a wonderful addition to our family!

  2. He is beautiful!!

Lydia lost a ton of weight at first, 12% of her birth weight in the first 3 days, and her juandice kept going up. She did some sunbathing, too. :) I am very glad to hear you got help nursing. I was so fortunate to have a friend who is a lactation specialist. It can be overwhelming especially when you know they really need to eat to gain weight and help the jaundice go down.

How many weeks do you have to have the baby at? I'm just curios because Lydia was born at 35 weeks.E was explaining it all to me. I think it is amazing that with modern interventions you are able to have babies safely. To think however many years ago mamas and babies wouldn't survive things that are now doable. I am so glad his lungs were developed. I am so happy for all of you. What a handsome little guy Hudson is. Congrats!!!
